What Is MARI®
The MARI is a comprehensive system that uses symbols, known as mandalas, to reveal the inner truth and reality of the subject as it is –not what the ego filters of consciousness would want it to be, but what it really is. Read more…
MARI (Mandala Assessment Research Instrument) is a psychological assessment that includes 39 symbol cards and 45 color cards. The symbol cards are displayed first -in random order. The person is asked to choose six symbol cards they like or are most attracted to, one symbol card they are least attracted to and even cards for “guidance” for a personal issue. They are then asked to choose colors that “go with” the symbols they picked. The choices of symbols and colors is intuitive.
Information is based down to us genetically from the countless generations who came before us. For thousands of years, humans have made other than conscious connections to symbols and colors. Today we know that, just like the memories of our grandmothers, this knowledge of symbols and color is part of what we know. We know it on an unconscious level but do not know it consciously. MARI is accurate because this unconscious knowing informs our intuitive choices of symbol and color. MARI is a whole-brain instrument that includes both conscious and unconscious elements of our whole psyche.
It is important to know the basis of training of a therapist. Like Freud, most traditional therapists are not trained to include spiritual aspects – and when these questions arise, therapists send their clients to their priest or minister for answers. Further, a client must receive a label to be covered by insurance. Transpersonal Psychology, on the other hand, recognizes that a person’s spirituality cannot be separated from their psychology. Jung strongly believed that many psychological issues have a spiritual basis. MARI is the only assessment that conceives of a person’s psyche as naturally including a spiritual perspective.
MARI® is based on a multi-leveled perspective that includes right- brain and left- brain aspects and conscious and other-than conscious elements. It is the only instrument that includes all four functions of consciousness – thinking, feeling, sensing and intuiting. An assessment is only as good as what it is designed to measure. MARI® is accurate because it is so comprehensive and it is positive because it is based in Transpersonal psychology. MARI® also has the ability to be used as a therapeutic tool.
